The Denver Nuggets flew all the way to Serbia to surprise center Nikola Jokic with the trophy for his second straight MVP award.
In a video shared by the Nuggets, live music plays as Jokic arrives to a stable in his hometown of Sombor in a horse-drawn cart after harness racing.
The 2021-2022 MVP was greeted by his family along with Nuggets coach Mike Malone and team president Josh Kroenke.
The Serbian native spends the offseason in his home country with his wife Natalija Macesic and their new daughter, who was born in September.
Jokic averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists in the regular season. Hes also the first player in NBA history with 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists in a season.
Last year, Jokic became the first Nugget ever to win MVP. This year, he joins the Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo (2019 and 2020) as the second consecutive international player to win two MVP awards in a row.
Jokic is the 13th player in NBA history to win it in consecutive seasons. Four active players have back-to-back MVP awards: Jokic, Antetokounmpo, LeBron James (2012 and 2013) and Stephen Curry (2015 and 2016).
