North West, the 10-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, revealed on TikTok that she has dyslexia.
In a TikTok video shared Wednesday, West can be seen handing her mother a phone, asking how to spell something.
Guys, I have dyslexia, she says. “Do you even know what that is?”
“Northy, you are sure spilling the tea on here,” Kardashian said.
Should I drop a album? West asks.
North, I’m gonna get off this live right now, Kardashian says, referring to the live video. Because you really just are saying way too much. I love you, but…
Kardashian tells West, I purposely don’t talk about stuff that you’re going through, as her oldest daughter talks over her, I know, I know, I know.
According to the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity, people with dyslexia have difficulty matching the letters they see with the sounds those letters and combinations of letters make. The condition is very common, according to Yale, affecting about 20% of the population and accounting for 80–90% of those with learning disabilities.
Those with dyslexia struggle to read fluently and spell words correctly, among other challenges, but the condition has no connection to overall intelligence, according to Yale.
In fact, dyslexia is an unexpected difficulty in reading in an individual who has the intelligence to be a much better reader, the center says on its website. While people with dyslexia are slow readers, they often, paradoxically, are very fast and creative thinkers with strong reasoning abilities.
Kanye West, 46, and Kardashian, 42, also share three younger children: son Saint, daughter Chicago, and son Psalm.
