WWE star Cody Rhodes on Monday confirmed he will indeed be the best man at a fan’s wedding after the fan made the unusual request at a SmackDown match on Saturday.
A fan held up a sign during a SmackDown match in Spokane, Wash., on Saturday, reading, Cody Be My Best Man. The 2023 Royal Rumble champion, 38, spotted the sign after his match.
It says, ‘Cody be my best man’, Rhodes told the crowd from the ring. What should I say?
The crowd roared, Yes!
Okay, I will indeed be your best man, Rhodes said as the crowd cheered.
I a followup video posted by the WWE on Monday, Rhodes said the request was real, and he will honor it. Man of my word, he said.
I should have not seen that sign, Rhodes joked. Turns out, I’m going to be his best man.
The video cut to a clip from the match where he jokingly asked if the wedding could be held on a weekday rather than Saturday, March 24.
Now, here’s the funny thing, Rhodes continued. I don’t even know his name. He’s gonna send me a DM on Instagram, he told me.
Despite being strangers, Rhodes said, I’m gonna end up at that guy’s wedding.
So congratulations to … future guy I’m the best man to, he said.
