Francia Raísa admitted this week that she and Selena Gomez didn’t speak much for six years after she donated one of her kidneys to Gomez, but that there was never any feud.
The actresses and entrepreneurs publicly reconciled earlier this year, after fans had long speculated there was bad blood between them.
“Its still crazy to me that people were invested in our friendship,” she told USA Today in an interview published Thursday.
The pair first met when Raísa was starring in The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Gomes was starring in Wizards of Waverly Place. In 2017, Raísa donated one of her kidneys to Gomez after she experienced complications from lupus, and autoimmune disease.
I don’t know why the timing happened the way it did, but I remember being in St. Tropez in June and I kept talking about her. We hadn’t spoken much in six years. Especially the last year, we didn’t speak at all, Raísa said.
When Raísa celebrated her 35th birthday in July, Gomez posted a public happy birthday message on social media.
I don’t know why the universe decided this timing … then she reached out and said, ‘Let’s talk’, Raísa recalled.
We’ve never really had beef with each other. Nothing happened, and if you ask either of us, we don’t know what happened but we needed that time apart. Then when you come back together, you’re better people. She and I are still getting to know each other again, Raísa said.
And obviously, you know, I gave the girl a kidney so everyone felt a certain way and I was asked for years and years and years, ‘Do you regret it?’ and I was like, ‘No, the relationship has always been there.’ There was just a tiff, she said.
