Keke Palmer has been granted a temporary restraining order against ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson after she accused him of physical and emotional abuse, and sought sole custody of their 8-month-old son, Leodis.
The actress, 30, filed for a temporary restraining order in Los Angeles on Thursday and it was granted by Judge Wendy L. Wilcox.
In her court filing, Palmer included screenshots from home surveillance videos that appeared to depict multiple instances of physical assault during their two-year relationship.
Although Palmer and Jackson, 29, split in October, she claimed in court documents that he attacked her on Nov. 5 after she objected to Leo attending a football game.
“At that point, he lunged at me, grabbing at my neck and face, knocked me backwards over the couch, stole my phone out of my hands, and then ran out of the house,” she alleged in court documents. Jackson then nearly hit her with his car as he left the scene.
Still images of the incident obtained from surveillance video were included in the filing, and appear to show Jackson knocking her over a couch and grabbing her neck.
Palmer called the police after that incident, and according to her court filing, police warned Jackson not to come back.
She alleged in the court filing that Jackson became “even more unhinged, volatile and dangerous after their breakup.
In a separate incident from February 2022, Palmer alleges Jackson became enraged by a photo of her wearing a bikini.
When I was almost at the bottom of the stairs, he grabbed me around the neck and body slammed me back onto the stairs,” she alleged in the court filing, alongside surveillance images of the altercation.
In the court filing, Palmer states that she fears for her son’s safety. She alleges Jackson regularly becomes frustrated with Leo, and detailed a September incident during which he started getting rough with Leo physically while he was changing his diaper.
Darius finally let go and Leo was not harmed, but as I was holding Leo trying to comfort him and finish changing his diaper, Darius hit me in the head before storming out of the room, she wrote.
It is because of our son, Leo, that I was finally able to end my relationship with Darius once and for all and escape the abuse, Palmer wrote in the court documents. Leo is the most important thing in the entire world to me; he needs and deserves to be safe and grow up in an environment free from violence.
She also stated she feared retaliation by Jackson.
I am fearful of what retaliatory actions Darius may take against me, including harming or taking our son away, if I give him notice of my request for protection, she wrote.
The couple’s relationship came into the spotlight in July, when Jackson publicly shamed Palmer for dancing with Usher at his Las Vegas residency while wearing a sheer dress.
“Its the outfit tho.. you a mom,” Jackson tweeted, doubling down on his views by describing himself as the man of the family and her behavior as a reflection on him.
Palmer, meanwhile, began selling I’m a Motha merch and appeared alongside Usher in his Boyfriend music video, poking fun at the infamous tweet with the line, I’m a mother, after all.
