“Fabelmans” star Michelle Williams praised her “Dawsons Creek” co-star Mary Beth Peil while accepting a performer tribute at the 32nd Gotham Awards in New York City on Monday.
“She’s not in the room, but she’s in my heart, Williams said of Peil, 82, “who played my grams on Dawsons Creek,” she said.
Piel portrayed Evelyn Grams Ryan, grandmother to Willams Jen Lindley, on the WB teen drama, which aired for six seasons from 1998 to 2003.
Williams said she was an emancipated minor when she met Piel. “I was 16 years old, and I was totally alone,” she said. Piel “was the first artist that I had ever met in my life.”
I wouldnt have known how to handle being Steven Spielbergs mother without having been Mary Beths granddaughter, Williams said of her recent role in “Fablemans.”
