Pete Davidson is ending his hit series Bupkis after one season, despite its renewal for a potential second season.
The comedian and actor on Thursday announced he will be walking away from his semi-autobiographical Peacock series rather than moving forward with a planned second season.
“Ive always seen ‘Bupkis’ as a window into my life, since it is so personal and about my struggles and family. After nearly a decade of my personal life being in the media I wanted a chance to tell my story my way,” Davidson said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Of all the work Ive ever done, ‘Bupkis’ is by far what Im most proud of. I am so grateful to Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video, Peacock, Universal Television and the amazing cast and writers for helping me create something honest, funny and heartfelt, Davidson said. I do also feel that this part of my life is finished. Im very excited for this next chapter and for you guys to see the work. Thank you to all who support me for I am forever grateful.”
Bupkis premiered in May 2023, and was set to begin production on the second season this summer. The series starred Edie Falco and Joe Pesci as Davidson’s mother and grandfather in the fictionalized version of his life story.
The series marked Davidson’s return to television after leaving Saturday Night Live in 2022. Since then, Davidson has also appeared in several films, and in January released his new comedy special, Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli, on Netflix. He’s currently on his Prehab comedy tour.
