A YouTube prankster was removed by security after joining the cast and crew of Oppenheimer on stage during the British Academy Film Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday.
“A social media prankster was removed by security last night after joining the winners of the final award on stage,” a BAFTA spokesperson told Deadline after the award show. “We are taking this very seriously, and dont wish to grant him any publicity by commenting further.”
The incident occurred when Oppenheimer won the award for Best Film, the last award of the night. While accepting the award from Michael J. Fox, producer Emma Thomas asked other members of the cast and crew to join her on stage.
Where are you? Come on, all of you, Thomas said.
As they filed onto the stage, the prankster could be seen among them in a black suit and hat. He remained on stage and stood behind Thomas, who is the wife of director Christopher Nolan, as she gave her acceptance speech.
Although the BAFTA spokesperson did not identify the prankster, online commenters pointed out it looked like a YouTuber who goes by the moniker Lizwani. He appeared to confirm his presence at the award show by posting photos and video clips on Instagram.
Here’s me and Cian Murphy receiving our BAFTA award, he wrote alongside one clip, referring to Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy. Lizwani also claimed police took some of his video footage, but said he still has a lot left.
“Oppenheimer” swept the BAFTAs on Sunday, claiming seven awards, including Best Director for Nolan, 53, and Best Leading Actor for Murphy, 47.
