Sydney Sweeney revealed that as a result of staying booked and busy recently, she was able to buy back her great-grandmother’s home.
During an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show, the 26-year-old Euphoria star said her family had been forced to sell the house due to financial struggles after the death of her great-grandfather.
“My great-grandma had this beautiful house, two bedroom, cute house that they lived in,” Sweeney told Clarkson.
“My grandma was born in it. My mom was born in it, and then as the kids got older, they built on the property another home,” she said. “And when my great-grandpa passed away and my great-grandma got old they just couldnt afford to keep it anymore.”
“Yeah, the upkeep,” Clarkson responded.
“Yeah, it was a lot, said Sweeney, who is currently promoting the upcoming rom-com Anyone But You, in which she stars opposite Glen Powell. She’s also set to star in the films Madame Web and National Anthem.
With her Hollywood success, she was able to reclaim the family home. “Last year I called up [the realtor], and I said I want to buy my great-grandmothers house back,” Sweeney said.
“And its really cool too, my granny still lives in the house next door,” she said. “So, Im neighbors with my granny now.”
In an interview with Women’s Health last month, Sweeney credited her parents’s sacrifices for allowing her to pursue her dream of acting.
“I watched my parents lose a lot. We filed for bankruptcy, and they lost their house back home,” she said. “We couldnt afford life in L.A. We couldnt afford life anywhere.”
She said she took on jobs cleaning bathrooms and leading tours at Universal Studios.
“I didnt want to fail them. No matter how long it took, I was going to be in a TV show or a movie, and I wasnt going to stop until something happened.”
In a July interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney revealed that starring in a hit TV show wasn’t as lucrative as people thought. The interview came as writers’ and actors’ strikes kicked off, a lot of people learned how much of the top-line payday actors have to dole out to managers, agents, stylists and others, leaving them with a lot less than fans think.
If I wanted to take a six-month break, I don’t have income to cover that, she told the outlet. I don’t have someone supporting me, I don’t have anyone I can turn to, to pay my bills or call for help.
She revealed that brand deals help fill the gaps between acting roles.
If I just acted, I wouldn’t be able to afford my life in L.A. she said. I take deals because I have to.
