Britney Spears on Monday apologized to anyone offended by her 2023 memoir, and revealed she’s in love with Justin Timberlake’s latest single, Selfish.
Spears, 42, shared the shout-out to her ex-boyfriend in an Instagram post on Monday, after her fans propelled her 2011 song, also titled Selfish, to No. 1, bumping Timberlake’s Selfish to No. 3 as of Friday afternoon.
“If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry…” Spears wrote Monday. Her memoir The Woman in Me sparked controversy for its revelations about the pop star’s relationship with Timberlake more than two decades ago. Spears claimed that Timberlake cheated on her, and pressured her to have an abortion.
In the wake of the revelation, fans revisited and reinterpreted her 2003 song Everytime, and developed renewed anger at Timberlake’s 2002 single Cry Me A River, in which he blasts Spears for allegedly cheating on him.
But despite the seeming bad blood, the Toxic singer praised Timberlake’s new single, which appears to have lifted its title from her own song.
“I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlakes new song Selfish’ It is soo good,” she wrote. How come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard api rss
Spears was referring to Jimmy Fallon, after Timberlake, 42, appeared on The Tonight Show to promote his new album last week.
“Ps Sanctified is wow too,” Spears said of another new song Timberlake performed on “Saturday Night Live.
