Emma Stone’s real name is Emily, and she wants people to start using it.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter published this week, the Oscar-winning actress said the people she knows and works with use her real name.
“I would like to be Emily,” she said, as she was interviewed alongside her Curse co-star Nathan Fielder. Nathan calls me Em, which is easier.
Stone, 35, said originally used the stage name because there was another Emily Stone in SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union.
“Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, I cant do it anymore. Just call me Emily,’” she said.
The Poor Things star clarified however, that if a fan approaches her and calls her Emma, she won’t correct them.
Stone revealed her real name years ago, and in a 2018 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she explained she’s had an affinity for the name Emma since childhood, thanks to Emma Lee Bunton, a.k.a. Baby Spice of the Spice Girls.
“Growing up, I was super blonde, and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice and guess what? Now I am,” she said. “It wasnt necessarily because of her but yes, in second grade, did I go up to the teacher on the first day and ask her to call me Emma? Yes, I did.
