Jimmy Buffett’s final music video was released over the weekend, and it promotes pet adoption for the ASPCA.
Buffett died on Sept. 1 at age 76 from Merkel cell skin cancer, a rare type of skin cancer he battled for four years, according to his website.
But before he died, the Margaritaville singer was working on a special music video called Like My Dog, which was debuted by Today on Saturday.
The video opens with Buffett playing with his own dogs, and features his call to other dog owners to share video clips of their pups. Hi, this is Jim and Jim’s dogs. We’re back in business here. If you got dogs out there, I’m your guy, he says. Just remember, we don’t do cats, we don’t do frogs. Here at Jim’s, we just do dogs, he says.
The video then cuts to a mixing board in a recording studio, with a dog’s paw pushing a slider up.
The video then launches into a song featuring the classic Buffett island sound, complete with steel drums, over more clips of him fishing and boating with his dogs, before showing images of other people with their dogs.
“She never tells me that shes sick of this house. She never says, Why dont you get off that couch?/ She dont cost nothin when she wants to go out/ I want you to love me like my dog, Buffett sings.
“The dedication and humanity Jimmy Buffett put into his music crossed over into his love for animals, especially pets and wildlife,” Matt Bershadker, president and CEO of the ASPCA, said in a statement. “This collaboration honors Jimmys legacy and animal advocacy and reflects our shared commitment to help vulnerable dogs find safe and loving homes.
Like My Dog can also be found on Buffett’s 31st and final studio album, Equal Strain on All Parts, which was released after his death on Nov. 3. The album debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 Chart.
