Temperatures finally cooled down enough in Brazil on Sunday for Taylor Swift to return to the stage after postponing Saturday’s Eras tour concert due to extreme heat, after a fan died on Friday.
The 33-year-old Grammy winner returned to the stage at Estadio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro Sunday after postponing Saturday’s show until Monday due to extreme heat. On Friday, 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado died shortly before the show as temperatures soared over 102 degrees, which combined with high humidity felt closer to 140 degrees, per reports.
“I cant believe Im writing these words, but its with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post on Friday.
“I cant even tell you how devastated I am by this, she said. Theres very little information I have other than the fact she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”
Swift shared she felt overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it.
I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my heart goes out to her family and friends, she wrote. “This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.
Videos of Swift’s Friday night concert showed she stopped the performance to make sure fans were able to get water.
There’s people that need water, right here, Swift said, pointing to fans waving empty water bottles in the air. So whoever is in charge of giving them that, please come and make sure that that happens.
Sorry, it’s just it’s very hot, so if somebody says they need water when it’s this hot, they really need it, she said.
