Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are married after being together for 12 years and welcoming two sons.
The Barbie co-writers reportedly tied the knot at New York City Hall and celebrated by seeing Billy Joel perform at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
Gerwig, 40 and Baumbach, 54, first met while filming the 2010 movie Greenberg and reportedly began dating in 2011. The pair welcomed their second child, and his third, in March this year. They also share 4-year-old Harold Ralph Gerwig Baumbach, while Baumbach shares 13-year-old son Rohmer with actress Jennifer Jason Leigh, who filed for divorce in 2010.
Gerwig and Baumbach got engaged in 2020, the year they were each separately nominated for Oscars. Baumbach was nominated for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay for Marriage Story, while Gerwig was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for Little Women.
Barbie earned more than $1.4 billion at the global box office, is leading awards season nominations, and led to Gerwig’s selection as president of the jury at next year’s Cannes Film Festival.
During a Q&A session after a screening of Barbie in October, Baumbach revealed he thought it was a terrible idea and Greta signed me up for it, but admitted it ended up being the best thing we’ve ever written, according to Variety.
I know enough always just to follow what Greta says, so even in my bellyaching and revolting, I kind of knew, ‘Well if she really believes it, then there’s something there’, Baumbach said.
