Jake Gyllenhaal says MMA fighter Conor McGregor punched him for real while they were filming Road House together.
By mistake, he clocked me in the face, Gyllenhaal, 43, said during an appearance Monday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
We would do a take [of] fake fighting, and then we’d go watch the monitors to see it back, to see what worked, Gyllenhaal said of the experience working with McGregor, 35.
He was always great with me, the actor said. He would tell me to do things like, ‘Oh, you know, turn your hand, move a little bit more this way to try to make it look more real.’
The incident with the accidental punch came while they were filming one of the movie’s many fight scenes at around 3 a.m., and McGregor was talking to me really close, Gyllenhaal said.
And he was like, ‘Yeah, that left hook looks good, but then when you do it, boom!’ And he hit me by mistake, he said. But the actor apparently gave as good as he got.
I, by mistake, then slammed his face with a car door. Like, legit, Gyllenhaal said.
In Road House, Gyllenhaal plays Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer in the Florida Keys.
Road House premieres on Prime Video on Thursday.
