Malia Obama hit the red carpet at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Thursday night for the premiere of her short film The Heart.
The 25-year-old daughter of former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama submitted her project under than name Malia Ann, her middle name.
“The film is about lost objects and lonely people and forgiveness and regret, but I also think it works hard to uncover where tenderness and closeness can exist in those things, the former first daughter said in a Meet The Artist video interview posted to the Sundance YouTube channel.
“We hope you enjoy the film and it makes you feel a bit less lonely, or at least reminds you not to forget about the people who are, she said.
Obama kept it casual for her red carpet debut in frigid temperatures, with a gray overcoat and scarf over a button-down shirt and black pants.
Obama moved to Los Angeles after graduating from Harvard University, and recently worked on the Amazon Prime Video series Swarm. Before that, while still a student, she worked on the HBO series Girls and the CBS series Extant.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last year, Swarm showrunner Janine Nabers described Obama as an “incredible writer” who is really, really dedicated to her craft.
