Country superstar Reba McEntire is returning to the small screen for a sitcom pilot, NBCUniversal announced Monday.
McEntire will star in the multi-camera sitcom as well as executive produce alongside Juli Abbott and former Reba executive producers Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis.
Reba inherits her fathers restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had, the logline reads.
The 68-year-old starred in Reba on The WB and The CW from 2001 to 2007. The Emmy-nominated comedy centered on Reba, a Texan single mom dealing with a divorce from a cheating husband and a pregnant teenage daughter. McEntire’s last starring role was in ABC’s Malibu Country in 2012, but that show was scrapped after a single season. She also appeared in the third season of ABC’s Big Sky, which aired in 2022.
McEntire has long been hoping to get a Reba reboot off the ground.
We’ve really been trying hard to do a reboot of the ‘Reba’ show, McEntire said during a July 2022 appearance on The Bobby Bones Show.
I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six and a half years, she said.
It was fun, the cast the crew everybody we got to work with and play with, they were wonderful people, she said. We wanted to get back together like a reunion and have fun, so hopefully that will happen one day.
