Wynonna Judd is reassuring fans that she’s OK after her surprise performance at the CMA Awards on Wednesday sparked concern.
The country singer took the stage with Jelly Roll for the opening performance, singing a duet version of his hit single Need A Favor. Judd, 59, appeared to be tightly holding on to the rapper’s arm for stability, and fans on social media wondered whether she was alright.
In a video message posted to Instagram after the show early Thursday, Judd said she was simply nervous.
“OK so they say dont read the comments — Ive read the comments. And Im just gonna come clean with yall, I was so freaking nervous. I got out there and I looked at Jelly Roll, I wanted it to be so good for him, the Country Music Hall of Famer said in the video.
“I could cry right now, but Im not going to, because Im such a fan of his, and he asked me to sing and I said absolutely, she said.
“I got out there and I was so nervous that I just held on for dear life. And thats the bottom line, she said.
Judd filmed the update while on a plane headed to Texas to continue her Back To Wy Tour, which covers her first two solo albums, 1992’s Wynonna and 1993’s Tell Me Why. The 15-city tour kicked off on Oct. 26 in Indianapolis, Ind., and will wrap Dec. 1 in Knoxville, Tenn.
“Ill be on stage tomorrow night with the people I love the most, and with you, the fans I love the most,” she said. “And all is well.”
