Christina Applegate Says She Had To Wear Diapers After Contaminated Salad Made Her Sick Amid MS

Christina Applegate revealed this week revealed some of the messier problems she has dealt with as a result of living multiple sclerosis, including having to wear diapers during a bout of food poisoning.
The Dead To Me star, 52, said during an episode of the MeSsy podcast she hosts with Sopranos alum Jamie-Lynn Sigler that she contracted sapovirus. The virus can cause acute gastroenteritis, according to the National Institutes of Health.
“I was so sick, I couldnt eat, I couldnt [do] anything,” Applegate said, adding that she had to wear diapers because she was “pissing out of my ass for a few days.”

Applegate said she thinks she contracted the virus from a salad she ordered from a restaurant she has been going to for 15 years. After eating the salad, she said she woke up in the middle of the night in a pool of her own excrement.
“Didnt know it happened, and having MS at 3 oclock in the morning and trying to change your sheets, its not fun,” she said, “but this brings me to my next point, which we can talk about: Im wearing diapers.”
Sigler, who also has MS, said she has also had to use adult diapers. MS is an autoimmune disease of the brain and spinal cord, and it disrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body, resulting in difficulty moving and walking, according to the Mayo Clinic.
“Christina and I have talked about this. Putting on an adult diaper, youre not gonna feel sexy,” said Sigler, 42. “Youre never gonna slip one on and be like, Im ready for my day. Its something you gotta wear because your body is malfunctioning.”
